You can't make this stuff up.

 

Hendrik: "Why do only ladies have babies?"

Me: "It is a special job that only ladies can do."

Hendrik:  "Is it a sort of construction job?"

Riley:  "What are those called again?  Veggie-o's?"  ~ In reference to the package of Fudgee-o's...

Abby: Oh, Old Woman?  Old Woman?

Me: (Wondering if Abby is referring to me and trying to figure out if I should answer.)

Riley: I'm busy.

Abby:  Oh.  I wanted to ask you a question because my baby doesn't have her clothes on. (For those of you not versed in Abby speak - her baby is her doll, not Emma)

 

Abby on repairs...

 

"Hendrik can fix things.  And my daddy. 

And Santa Claus.  But not other mans."

Overheard...

from two little girls standing near the big living room window...

 

Riley: "Let's look out the window, it's beautiful."

"Wow," says Abby in an awe-filled tone.

"It will be spring in just a few minutes," says Riley in a very sweet, yet matter of fact way. 

 

Good thing 4 year olds and almost 3 year olds don't have much grasp of the concept of time.  It would be an excruciatingly long few minutes!

 

Spelling

Hendrik is incredibly interested in words and their spelling right now.  Here's a conversation we had earlier this afternoon.

Hendrik: "Mom, how do you spell your name?"

Me: "Which one?"

Hendrik: "Your first name."

Me: "Do you mean Jennifer?"

Hendrik: "No, I mean Mommy."
