Joining up with Ginny at Small Things for a knitting and reading update. :)

I am so excited to be making visual progress with this cowl.  My understanding of the stitches has definitely come a long way.  If I make a mistake I can correct it now without having to pull out the whole project, which I did many, many times.  It also helps when you are remembering the pattern correctly as it looks so much more like the picture on the pattern!  Haha!  Most of this was done in the last 24 hours.  It goes so speedily with the chunky yarn and big needles.

 

I am still reading "Mukiwa" and have started "Real Learning: Education in the Heart of the Home" by Elizabeth Foss as well for something completely different.  

I am feeling bitten by the spring cleaning bug all of a sudden and today we started scrubbing the hardwood floors (we have the thin strip kind) with old toothbrushes.  It is looking and smelling so good!  (Idaho Blue Spruce and Lemon oils combined smell so fresh and invigorating!) I'm alternating scrubbing a while with knitting a while, and then scrubbing a while with reading a little. Progress on all three fronts!

Plumbing and Moose Hunting

Hrmn.  There seems to be a correlation between plumbing problems and Dwayne going away moose hunting.  The last time he was away for an extended period of time hunting we had issues.  We have the same ones today.  Blech!  I'm off to pour my eco-friendly dish soap and some near boiling water in the toilet.  I hope it works...

Why do these things seem to happen when husbands and dads are out of town?  I guess it forces us to learn something new!  That's what I'm going to tell myself anyway.  That this is actually a good thing.  Okay, maybe not good but not horrible either. ;)

Update: Plumbing situation resolved.  2 for 2 with the dish soap and hot water.  Easy, cheap, convenient, and it works!

One surface at a time...

Oy! The house, the house. It is scary in here right now. Just about every surface is covered with a pile or a stack of something. Very distracting. I want to clean it all but it's a bit overwhelming. We rearranged our loft last night to try to make the space work better for all of us sleeping up there and also for clothing and other storage. It looks better already and I think it will really help but a lot of things got displaced to the main living area and so there isn't a tidy area in the house right now. I think the solution is to go one surface area at a time and keep those that have been cleared free and clear of stuff, even temporarily. Off I go!

Here's my list of surfaces to start with:

-dining table

-dishwasher

-couch

-kitchen counter

-entertainment stand

-coffee table

-top of fridge

-desk
Also:

-clean bathroom

-sweep floors

-put away the clean laundry I just frantically pulled off the line at the sound of thunder!
