Saturday afternoon we took a little drive to the Salt River Day Use area in Wood Buffalo National Park. We knew that not all of the snow would be gone but there would be enough melted for the kids to roar around a bit. We stopped and picked up a few munchies at the grocery store on the way out of town so we could have a snack out there. It was so nice to hear the sound of running water! The river is a funny yellowy-brown colour at the moment. There is still a good deal of ice under the top layer of water as the river is quite shallow in this area and will freeze all the way to the riverbed. We didn't see much for wildlife this trip, just a muskrat on the side of the road on the way there and a pileated woodpecker flying overhead on the way home.
Looks like a great outing. Love the last pic!
