I picked this little rock up at the gift shop at the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller. I loved the colours and sparkle. It sits in the kitchen window where I can see it when I'm doing the dishes.

This corner of my house is making me happy. I like the combination of the piano, plant, and painting. When there isn't LEGO on the bench, I actually enjoy playing the piano too!

"Plantie" is a venus flytrap that Hendrik picked out while we were at the grocery store a few weeks ago. I was buying a Boston fern and another plant when we spotted these. The poor lady at the cash register was not so thrilled. She seemed quite appalled. I asked her if she was okay and she told me that the whole idea of venus flytraps freaked her out a bit. I've never encountered anyone who thought an insect eating plant was creepy. There are so many mosquitoes, black-flies, sand-flies, etc here in the summer that I assumed those sort of plants would be a more than welcome addition to any home. Now the kids are wishing for insects in the house so the plant has something to eat.
Plantie currently sits beside this funny little fellow who alternately reminds me to think creatively or to not take things to seriously.

The entrance is starting to recover from vacation. It was mostly a dumping ground the last couple of weeks for whatever was left to come in from the van or the bags that had yet to be unpacked. Today I dealt with the last of the miscellaneous pile from vacation - sea shells, receipts, and other randomness. You can see there is still a lot coming and going - clothes being given away, an Anne of Green Gables hat to be hung on a bedroom wall (see the red braid hanging down?), soccer shoes to be put away in the garage, fabric to mail to my sister, etc.
