This has been quite the week or so when it comes to things coming together in our house and yard.  First, the kids received a rather big gift on the weekend - a giant, incredibly well constructed play house for the yard.  A friend built it for his own children but as they are now in their 20s he thought it should be passed along to another generation of little girls to enjoy.  It's amazing and the girls have been playing in it nonstop.  

 

It is spring cleanup time in our town, which means any and all garbage of any size and description can be left out with your regular garbage and the town staff will pick up and dispose of it at no charge.  This also means treasure hunting season!  After all, one person's junk is another person's treasure.  I found a beautiful pine headboard and foot board in one such garbage heap.  Dwayne picked it up for me one day on his way home from work.  I love it!  I've been looking for a headboard for ages but hadn't found one I really liked or that was in a reasonable price range.  Free is even better!  For now the headboard is just propped up until we make some side rails but it makes me happy.  

 

I went to the neighbouring town for a dental appointment yesterday and stopped at their local greenhouse and home dec type store.  I wound up with a very pretty shell planter and got a great deal on slightly fixer-upper fountain.  The kids and I have been talking about getting a fountain for a few summers now and so we are all quite excited about this new addition to the yard.

 

This funny little fellow came home with us from the greenhouse last Friday.  I couldn't resist!  

 

 

Dwayne has got a very real start on our addition this week!  Hooray!  Two floor sections have been constructed, three more to go and then we can start on the log walls.  SO exciting.

Okay, that was probably my longest blog post title ever.  We are sure enjoying the warmer temperatures around here.  The snow has gone, plants are starting to green up a little, the trees have tiny buds, and the mosquitoes are making their prescence known.  Spring is finally here!  Here are a few photos from a recent playdate in a friend's yard.  We spend a lot of time there in the warmer months as her yard somehow seems to have fewer mosquitoes than anyone else's!  Don't know why that is, but we love it!  There's been a lot happening in our yard the last week or so as well.  I don't have pictures yet though, so those will have to be for another post.

The week leading up to Valentine's Day and Emma's birthday was a busy one.  We tried to stop and enjoy the roses along the way though. :)  My sister Christen and I found these lovelies at our local grocery store on Sunday, we split the bouquet between us.  Aren't the colours amazing?  These photos have not been enhanced, nor has a flash been used, this is their natural splendor!

Dwayne and I went out to a formal event on Saturday night.  We have friends who are part of the RCMP and thought this a great chance to visit with friends, have a night out together, and have an excuse to dig out formalwear (we were hunting around outside in -20C looking for the storage bins containing our suits and formal dresses!).  Sadly, I didn't take a photo of us dressed up.  Silly!

There is real progress happening in our yard these days.  If you look past the heart decorations on the window you will see menfolk milling lumber and splitting logs in preparation for the addition we will putting on soonish.  Yay!

What happens when an otherwise full space has been emptied for cleaning and reorganizing.  It gets filled up again alright, but not necessarily with what you thought was going back in there.  They wanted to sleep in there all night.

This is a happy sight each evening, Daddy and baby snuggled up together, each happy to sit with the other and chat about their day.

I bought these little guys on etsy for a game that my grandma used to set up for her children and grandchildren over the month of December.  The elves find a new hiding place each evening after the children go to bed and the race is on in the morning to be the first to spot the elves.  However, these are vintage elves and not quite up to the imaginative play of a three year old and a five year old.  They are now both headless and in need of repair.  I did take a photo of them in their broken state but it looked too gruesome to post, so here they are, posed and ready for repair!

A much warmer than normal November.  We are NOT complaining about that.  We are staying wimpier longer as a result though.  -21C suddenly feels very cold.  After a week of -30C that will be the new warm.  I am waiting for the "normal" temperatures to return, but at the same time wishing that they hold off until the new year.
